Blue Mountains National Park - Grand Canyon Walking Track - PARTIAL CLOSURE FOR RESTORATION
Details:
Grand Canyon Walking Track PARTIAL CLOSURE FOR RESTORATION The Grand Canyon Walking Track is over 100 years old and receives approximately 30,000 visitors each year. Plans to restore parts of the track are in progress. Works are programmed to begin around March 2009. Works will commence on the Neates Glen section of the track. Work on this section is expected to take approximately 10 months. The restoration will include recutting stone steps, repairing staircases, installing new stepping stones across Greaves Creek, building a new footbridge, drainage and new barrier fencing. It will be painstaking work in a very difficult and inaccessible work site, subject to weather extremes. The completed works however will be the first stage to improve access to the Grand Canyon and restore the past glory of the original track for future generations to enjoy. For these works to take place as SAFELY and EFFICIENTLY as possible the worksite will need to be CLOSED while works are in progress. It is anticipated that Neates Glen will be CLOSED from March 2009 to December 2009. Every effort will be made to open the track on weekends and public holidays during this period. Access to the canyon from Evans Lookout should remain open with minimum disruption. We appreciate your patience and hope you will enjoy visiting the improved site once the work is finished. Please contact the NPWS Heritage Centre for further updates and progress reports. NPWS Heritage Centre is open 7 days a week for visitor information. Tel: 4787 8877

‘Watermark’ A new exhibition of Ice Drawings and Photographs By Jenny Allan
Details:
‘Watermark’ A new exhibition of Ice Drawings and Photographs By Jenny Allan 13th June – 7th August 2009 Opening Saturday 13th June Drinks and canapés served 3-5 pm Jenny is interested in the patterns found in nature, natural processes in the environment that leave their marks for us to discover, and she has developed a unique approach to creating art. Her ‘ice drawings’ are created by adding pigment, either graphite powder or ink to water and then freezing. The blocks are then placed on paper to melt, the pigment leaves marks as they would in a natural environment. Each block reveals its uniqueness as the materials react to different weights of paper and the temperature and conditions of the environment. Open Day at the Arms of Australia Inn Museum
Details:
Open Day at the Arms of Australia Inn Museum Sunday, July 19 A very public trial, 1790s style, will be held at the Arms of Australia Inn, Emu Plains, on Sunday 19 July 2009, for John Wilkins who was arrested for stealing from the Government store on June 20. The trial will be conducted by the NSW Corps of Marines following the Flag raising ceremony which will include the 5th Light Horse Regiment Hawkesbury Troop. Should Wilkins sentence include a flogging, he will be taken to the Corps hospital, next door to the court, to be patched up. Amongst their duties on the day, the Marines will challenge, along with other teams from the district, the winners of last year's Leg Pull competition. 'A greater effort is being made to acquaint children with local history with the help of the Marines' re-enactments, You could describe it as a day of learning and fun,' said Craig Werner, President of the Nepean District Historical Society. 'We've always had attractions for kids, but this year we'll have more.' There will be a host of activities for children of all ages. Trampoline Bungee Jumping, Thomas the Tank Engine, face painting the ever popular old fashioned school room, games, merry-go-round, animals to cuddle and a jumping castle. There will be plenty of food, music, stalls, and displays of all kinds and plenty of entertainment. The day, which commemorates the day William Cox started the road across the Blue Mountains in 1814, starts at 9.30 am.
