Grug and the Rainbow
The classic Aussie hero Grug - the little Burrawang treetop that could - is back from the bush to enchant a new generation of youngsters.
Grug, the picture book character created nearly 40 years ago by Ted Prior, comes to the stage at the Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre on Friday 29 and Saturday 30 September. Produced by the award-winning Windmill Theatre Co, known for captivating the imaginations of children across Australia and around the world, this dynamic little show is perfectly crafted to deliver a magical experience in the theatre.
Grug began his life as the top of a Burrawang tree that fell to the ground. Fascinated by the world around him and full of determination, Grug embarks on an epic journey to catch all the elusive colours of the rainbow so he can create his own.
Will our grassy little friend reach the rainbow that always seems just beyond his grasp? And what fun and adventure will he have along the way?
Grug is the only creature of his kind and as he doesn’t have any family to guide him through his experiences in the world. He learns to solve the challenges he encounters on his own, using his creativity, inventiveness and generosity. Perhaps Grug’s special kind of independence and adventurousness is part of what makes him so appealing.
This production has been created by a group of artists who shared director Sam Haren’s childhood love of Grug. Featuring exquisite puppetry, inventive performances, plenty of surprises and fabulous storytelling Grug and the Rainbow has been especially created for our littlest theatregoers (and Grug fans of all ages).
Ready to enchant a new generation of young people, Grug and the Rainbow will be a joyous experience of a very special creature brought to life.
Celestino - proud sponsors of The Joan’s Kids and Families’ program - offer these hints: 34 minutes long, no interval, suitable for ages up to five and when laying out the clothes, colours of the rainbow strongly recommended!
