Massive Boost to Penrith Train Services

Stuart Ayres MP, Member for Penrith welcomes the announcement that a substantial increase in T1 Western Line services from Penrith to the city including more trains in the AM peak with a service, on average, every seven and a half minutes, instead of every ten minutes.

Penrith customers will also benefit from more Parramatta – Sydney CBD express services with up to 20 express trains per hour in peak periods or a service every three minutes.

Stuart Ayres said the T1 Western Line is already one of the busiest on the Sydney Trains network, and we’re expecting a further increase in passenger numbers of around 20 percent by 2022.

“So we’re simplifying how the Western Line operates by reducing the number of train merge or crossover points, allowing us to increase rail service frequency and provide more reliable trips,” Stuart Ayres said.

“Customers between Penrith and Doonside will also enjoy double the amount of services on weekends and late at night, meaning a train at least every 15 minutes.

“These improvements are a significant increase in capacity to help reduce crowding and improve convenience for customers,” said Stuart Ayres.

Penrith customers will also benefit from 24 new express trains on weekends to take them to and from popular Blue Mountains destinations as well as a new weekday Sydney to Lithgow return express service which will stop at Penrith station.

“Penrith is an important strategic centre and this timetable change means Penrith customers will now have faster trips and more train services, more often,” said Stuart Ayres.

The improvements will be delivered in late 2017 as part of the More Trains More Services Program, a $1.5 billion NSW Government initiative to boost capacity across the network through hundreds of extra services, better infrastructure and new trains for Sydney.
