The Coalition Government has made the first quarterly payment of more than $1.3 million to Penrith City Council under the 2018-19 Financial Assistance Grant Program.

Minister for Regional Services, Sport, Local Government and Decentralisation, Senator the Hon Bridget Mckenzie, said the program was a prime example of the Coalition Government’s commitment to supporting the efforts of local government to deliver the services and facilities their communities need.

“Under the program, the Government is providing local governments with a total of $2.4 billion in untied grants in 2018-19,” Minister McKenzie said.

“Councils are free to spend this untied funding based on their own local priorities including the infrastructure and services their community needs."

Liberal Senator for Western Sydney, Senator the Hon Marise Payne, said the funding boost will help Penrith City Council fund important local projects.

“The Coalition government recognises the important service delivery Councils undertake at a grassroots level,” Senator Payne said.

“The government’s financial contribution enables Penrith City Council to invest in local facilities, community programs and environmental works, and these are helping to make Penrith a better place to live, work and raise a family.”

Penrith City Councilor Tricia Hitchen said Council welcomed the government’s financial assistance.

“This funding gives Council the ability to improve the amenity and lifestyle of our most disadvantaged areas. We thank the Federal government for realising the value of this program to local government,” Cr Hitchen said.

Full details of the allocations to councils under the Financial Assistance Grant Program are available online.
