Applications for the Penrith Regional Gallery & The Lewers Bequest 2017 Summer Studio Residencies are now open. The Residency is on offer from 11 December 2017 to 21 January 2018. Applications close Sunday 3 September 2017.

Now in its fifth year, the Gallery offers a six-week residency for both an early and mid-career artist. Two artists - individual or collective – will be hosted in the Gallery’s Sonia Farley Studios over the summer of 2017/18.

The Gallery studios are situated on the property once owned by Margo and Gerald Lewers, Modernist artists who made a significant contribution to the Sydney art scene. The Summer Studio Residency offers artists time, space and a chance to work in an environment where the context, community and gallery culture continues to stimulate artistic practice and enliven Penrith’s cultural life.

This is an opportunity for artists to step away from their usual environment and immerse themselves in their art practice. A chance to work in a modern studio haven in creatively stimulating surrounds, with access to a unique collection of modern and contemporary art, and the insights of other artists, experienced gallery curators and technicians.

Past artists-in-residence include Rochelle Summerfield, Rebecca Gallo, Harriet Body, David Capra, Freya Jobbins, Hayley Megan French, Cindy Chen and Catherine O’Donnell.

A $1000 stipend will be provided.

Submissions for the Summer Studio Residency close Sunday 3 September 12 mid-night.
